Kid Pastor and Family Ministry

is there a pastor that I can talk to about depression?

I’m the follower of Jesus which is really vexed about own illness as well as family situations. We do not have the priest right right away during my church to speak to about all of this.

You from can speak to the pastor of ANY church. But from personal experience, they don’t understand depression as a MEDICAL condition. We have 4 ministers at our church who all do and say the wrong things in trying to "help". If it is situational, they may be a tremendous help. But if it is deeper than that, please speak to a professional counselor or doctor as well.

**ETA**One of these ministers is trying to "help" to the point that even my husband is considering leaving the church he has been a member of nearly all of his life and I have been for 11 or 12 years…because of the stress it is putting on me and therefore on our marriage.

Being depressed is caused by a chemical imbalance of serotonin levels in the brain. It is not something that can be corrected by just talking alone. You need to get to your doctor and ask to be put on something for depression. If that dosent seem to help your symptoms ask to be put on Abilify along with your antidepressant. It will help any physical problems you have also. I know this because it happened to me and it took me years to get on the right medications. I’m just trying to save you a little time here. I hope you will take what I’ve said seriously. You can talk to a pastor just as you could to a therapist or a counselor. That helps too but not if your not on medication.

I am not a pastor either though you can always email me and I will be able to help you find a pastor in Hawaii who might find time to talk to you.
