Fellow Catholics- What is the difference between a Pastor and a Parochial Vicar?
At a Parish, you have dual Priests. On a Bulletin, it says
Rev. James B. Johnson- Pastor
Rev. Charles Leke- Parochial Vicar
I was wondering what a disproportion was.

A pastor is assigned to the parish for an extended term – usually five to ten years. That assignment could be changed, but is expected by the priest who is pastor, and by the bishop who assigned him, to last the amount of time originally agreed to at the time the assignment is made.
A parochial vicar is "on loan" from the diocesan bishop. Parochial vicars are not directly attached to the parish – they are directly attached to the bishop. That means that the parochial vicar could be reassigned to any other parish or other facility with little or no advance notice without violating any etiquette or protocol.
Parochial vicars are sometimes in a parish for several years, but still remain officially "on loan" from the bishop. Parochial vicars often are new priests who are sent to a parish to learn under the guidance of a more mature and experienced pastor, but parochial vicars can be experienced priests.
Even though "on loan" from the bishop, priests serving as parochial vicars often make very important contributions to a parish, and they usually are treated by parishioners as any other parish priest.

Parochial vicar is a new term for an associate pastor, an assistant pastor, or a curate.
One or more parochial vicars can be associated with the pastor.

My understanding is that the pastor is in charge of the parish, overseeing the running of it, etc.
The parochial vicar is the priest(s) who are assigned to assist the pastor/parish.

The pastor at my parish is usually found at a second parish which is his main parish.
The parochial vicar is a priest from outside of the diocese under a different bishop, who proclaims the good news and provides the sacraments to the faithful in the parish and acts as a pastor.
The main difference is that the bishop of the diocese does not assign the parochial vicar like he assigns priests in his diocese.
