I got ‘Chips from the chocolate fireball’ 17 years ago as a teenager and still play it all the time-brilliant,prefer it to much of XTC’s stuff.

    I love this music!
    I love XTC!

  3. Melkvision Says:

This was the aim, their other work sounds nothing like this. You should look up one of their more famous songs like ‘Making Plans For Nigel’ to see them in a different light.

  4. RKevinDoyle Says:

Actually, this song was intended as a tribute to the Beatles psychedelic period. In fact, the whole “25 O’Clock” album by The Dukes was intended as a tribute to the various psychedelic English bands of the late 60’s – Pink Floyd, The Move, etc.

  5. grimacinglummox Says:

These guys wish they were the Beatles. They are clearly trying ti emulate them. The lead singer is deliberately trying to mimic Paul McCartney’s voice.

I love the song though. We need more of this.

  6. grimacinglummox Says:

    hilarious!

  7. canturgan Says:

Sounds a bit like ‘Stone enge’(tap) mixed with I am a walrus.

  8. globalheart Says:

umm, once saw that one too, (incredible stunts for early film) believe it was an early German anti-regimentationist film?

  9. autosloper Says:

Their manager was called ‘Mitch Mengele’

After 25 Years, this is still so listenable and refreshing. Timeless as the infinite possibilities of never reaching 25 O’Clock.

Just can’t seem to get the buttons these days …..

  12. pbonney Says:

I love trippy music and this is no exception. Very impressive stuff. The Beatles in their psychedelic heyday could not pull it off better than this. Wonder what the reaction that the remaining Beatles had to this.

  13. unclemeat2u Says:

there’s an early 1920s experimental film they’re clearly giving a nod to in the end with the backwards floating bowler hats. I wish I could remember the name. :)

    I am the walrus…X X X T

  15. ashetonpop Says:

I bought the record in 1985 and it´s still one of the best psychedelic records I know at all! They were the first ones who did that then.

  16. mcdstuff Says:

could be the best music video ever made

  17. lofistew Says:

This is incredible! I bought the original record back in 1985 purely because the cover sleeve was so mind-blowing, and the music inside was equally so. I had no idea that it was XTC.

But this is the first time I’ve seen the video and it’s amazing — totally the spirit of ‘67! Thanks for posting.

Just bloody brilliant all the way through! Nice resolution and sound too! It’s nice Andy & Colin didn’t get sued for plagiarism – it’s a testament to the artfulness of their tributes to the 60s psych greats.

I just sit here watching it over and over. I can’t get enough! Thanks so much for posting!
